Our House — A Festival of Arts, Diversity + Community

What this was

A free, family-friendly arts and cultural festival celebrating the organization’s community and a decade of work. The centerpiece was the rarely performed Dian Jing eye-dotting ceremony awakening the organization’s 20-foot Chinese dragon — a tradition transmitting life force and community spirit. Attendees could join the dragon team, participate in action choreography, explore a Memory Lane exhibit of past productions, and celebrate together. The organization’s mission made visible as a party.

RARELY PERFORMED DRAGON AWAKENING CEREMONY AND COMMUNITY EVENT
OUR HOUSE – A Festival of Arts, Diversity and Community on APRIL 8th, 2018
Austin, Texas (April 8, 2018) 2 PM – 5 PM Lucky Chaos productions invites you to participate in a rarely
performed “Dian Jing” “eye-dotting” awakening ceremony and interactive cultural festival. In accordance
with the Chinese dragon and lion tradition, this awakening ceremony is performed by a group of VIPs,
including leaders from the city government, business sector and community.
Lion Dancer Norman Tran describes the ceremony: “The Chinese lion and dragon dances have been a
tradition in China for more than a thousand years. The Dian Jing ‘eye-dotting’ ceremony awakens the spirit
of the lion and dragon from the heavens and transmits life force and power.”
The festival will take place at the Motion Media Arts on 2200 Tillery Street, Austin, TX, 78723, on April 8,
2018 from 2 to 5 PM. The Eye Dotting Ceremony will take place at 3:30 PM, to awaken Lucky Chaos’s 20-
foot dragon and 2 lion puppets. This interactive event is family friendly and free to attend. Every attendee
will have a chance to win a round-trip flight on Southwest Airlines, among other prizes. Local minority arts
groups will have booths to interact with the community, and there will be performances including a Lion
Dance, street performance and African martial arts. There are multiple interactive booths with fun activities,
highlighting the creative arts of minority arts groups. Adults can observe and learn about the 20-foot dragon
up-close, and children can try out the smaller 5-foot dragon puppet.
“This event provides a unique opportunity for the convergence of minority-run arts organizations, the
business community, city government and hard to reach constituents,”
Leng Wong, Executive Director of Lucky Chaos Productions
We are hosting this event to bring people together from across cultural lines to spend time together in a fun
and interactive environment. We want to do our share in celebrating the arts in our community, and to
remind us that we are more alike than different.
